Freight Logistics

 

The Modern Apprenticeship Group approved the Modern Apprenticeship in Freight Logistics In June 2011. The content of the apprenticeship is outlined below:

 

Mandatory Outcomes

The following must be achieved:

  • SQA National Progression Award in Supply Chain Operations (G93X45)

(or equivalent award from other awarding bodies as agreed with SSC).

This qualification is mandatory only for new entrants to the logistics sector - please see the note at the bottom of this page.

 

  • One or more SVQs chosen from the following:

o      Driving Goods Vehicles: articulated or drawbar level 2 (GA0322)

o      Driving Goods Vehicles: rigid vehicle level 2 (GA0422)

o      Driving Goods Vehicles: van level 2 (GA0522)

o      Driving Goods Vehicles: motor cycle or pedal cycle level 2 (GA0622)

o      Supply Chain Management level 2 (G88122)

o      Warehousing & Storage level 2 (G8WA22)

o      Warehousing & Storage level 2 (G9HF22)

o      Warehousing & Storage level 2 (GC6J22)

o      Supply Chain Management level 3 (G88223)

o      Logistics Operations Management level 3 (G9HE23)

o      Driving Goods Vehicles level 3 (GE6A23) NEW

Future SVQs in the logistics sector at levels 2 and 3 will be added as soon as they are accredited.

 

  • Core skills

o    Communication

o    ICT

o    Numeracy

o    Problem Solving

o    Working with Others

Minimum core skill levels for each route are as follows:

  • MA at SVQ level 2 – all core skills at SCQF 3
  • MA at SVQ level 3 – all core skills at SCQF 4        

All core skills in all routes are required to be separately certificated.

 

Optional Outcomes

·         Category B, C1, C or C+E licence, appropriate to chosen SVQ

(Only for MA candidates undertaking any of the Driving Goods Vehicles SVQs)

  

NOTE: If providers wish to exempt any candidate from undertaking the National Progression Award they must fall into one of the following categories:

  1. The candidate falls outside Skills for Logistics’ definition of a “new entrant” to the logistics industry. For the purposes of this Modern Apprenticeship, a new entrant is someone who has not been employed in the logistics industry for three months or more prior to registration on the apprenticeship framework. Providers must complete a signed declaration that they have confirmed this as fact with the apprentice’s employer (Document can be dowloaded from this page).

  2. The candidate has completed a Targeted Pathways to Apprenticeship programme delivered in a Logistics company.
